Camping Safety Tips

Summer is here and the time for outdoor activities is at hand once again. Camping is an all-time favorite for many people of all ages; both men and women love to spend time in the great outdoors. There is a lot more to camping than just pitching a tent and doing some fishing. Planning and safety are of the upmost importance when deciding to spend any amount of time outdoors, be it a three-hour hike or a weekend camping adventure. Safety must always be a top priority.

Your backpack should be well stocked with items, such as well marked maps, sunscreen, lip balm, sunglasses and a hat with a wide brim. Even though you may be in a wooded area, you can still risk a sun burn. Make sure you pack a flashlight with extra batteries. Most importantly, do not forget you first aid kit with the basic necessities, such as band-aids, Ace bandages, burn ointment, antiseptic cream or spray and bug spray. Keep matches or lighters on hand for a campfire. Make sure you have a pocket knife handy; you never know when you might need one. Make sure to pack food, such as snack bars, and plenty of water. The last thing you want is to become dehydrated. Two-way radios are a good idea as well. Never, ever camp alone and always be very careful with campfires. Be on the lookout for poison ivy, wild animals, snakes, spiders, etc.

Before you leave for your trip, make sure to completely plan out the trip. Plan an overnight stay on high ground in case of unexpected rain. Camping is a lot of fun, especially if done the right way.
